Week 3: Australiana

I’m a bit late on posting this, considering I finished the piece a few days ago. So I have to settle for posting it on Paddy’s Day, which means no one will be reading it.
So the topic for this week is Australiana. To be honest I don’t know anything about Australia, just that everything that lives there wants to kill you! I had the idea of drawing spiders or the mythological “drop bear”, but then I thought I’d be very stereotypical and drew a Kangaroo. They are literally Australia’s least scary mascot… Well they could probably punch you to death… Now I’m going to have nightmares about that, hence why I never want to go to Australia.

Australiana Original ink work

So above is my Australiana kangaroo, I used a lot of ink, some salt on the background then I added a few drops of white acrylic paint to make it look starry. The next two images are my Photo-shopped versions that I like better than the original. Continue reading “Week 3: Australiana”

University Paintings

Although I prefer to draw, I did have my painting phase in University. I do every now and then revisit painting, but mainly using ink and watercolour paints in a style I can draw around. In this blog I am exhibiting five paintings from my first and second years of University. They are all completely different styles due to my lack of planning when I come face to face with a canvas. Most of the time I just wing it. I feel like Art University was a complete waste of time and I still have no idea what I am doing; sometimes it works, other times I just murder a canvas.

The first two images are from my final project of first year, I decided to make maps out of flowers and faces. The last three are from the first semester of second year, for which I decided to do a project on mental health. Check out the paintings below and let me know what you think!
